The latest RnB star, Taio Cruz to hit the clubs refuses to be pigeon-holed into one musical category.
The Londoner who has scored a recent smash hit with his I Just Wanna Know says there is more about him than just a plain RnB style.
"It would be fair to say that I have a soulful voice, but I wouldn’t say I’m a soul singer, said the rising talent.
"To say I’m an R'n'B artist would be boxing me into one genre and I've done a lot more. I've made hip-hop songs, I love rock, I wrote Your Game, which was a hit for Will Young – I like to be varied."
Heavily influenced by the US scene, the silky singer has plans to make a name for himself on the other side of the Atlantic and has plans to make his dreams real.
"I'm realistic about my career, said the star of Nigerian and Brazilian descent.
"Some people might feel that when a UK artist goes to the US, they're deserting the UK, but I don’t see it like that.
Taio believes America is the place to be to make his type of music because the style is more valued there.
"When it comes to R'n'B, the US has the most professionalism. They know how to provide a good package. They'll spend the money on stylists and on their videos, in order to produce a top-quality product.
"Record companies over here can be very slow when it comes to R'n'B.
"They can be reluctant about spending money and putting proper promotion into R'n'B. So if I have to go to America to get the most professionalism in order to be able to fly the flag for UK artists, so be it."
The 23-year-old's much-awaited debut album was released earlier this month.
